The figure skating community is mourning the tragic loss of several of its brightest stars following a devastating plane crash near Washington, D.C., on January 30, 2025. Among the victims were world-renowned skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, as well as promising young athletes Spencer Lane and Jinna Han.

Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, a married couple, were celebrated figures in the world of pairs figure skating. They clinched the gold medal at the 1994 World Figure Skating Championships and earned silver and bronze medals in other years. Their performances were characterized by technical precision and emotional depth, captivating audiences worldwide.
After retiring from competitive skating, Shishkova and Naumov transitioned to coaching, nurturing the next generation of skaters. They settled in Connecticut, where they built a life together and contributed significantly to the local skating community.

The crash also claimed the lives of two young skaters from the Skating Club of Boston: 16-year-old Spencer Lane and 13-year-old Jinna Han.
